Description

Incense burner lid with a large quetzal-shaped handle, manufactured with modeling, appliqué and punching techniques. The following features show some detail: the wings with fluted and incised lines, eyes, crest and open beak with a clay ball that probably represents an aguacatillo fruit, its natural food. The bird stands atop a cylindrical lid with decorated edgess as well as with ventilation holes.

Probably from the region of Quiché and Las Verapaces (Alta and Baja Verapaz).
