Description

Conical incense burner lid, Teotihuacan style, decorated with appliqué and pastillage techniques.

The modeled and molded clay ornaments have the shape of bivalve shells, flowers, and aquatic motifs, including a water lily bud (Nimphea ampla) on the top of the lid and painted in yellow and white (identification by Dr. Miguel Torres, personal communication, 2025).

*Donation by Dr. Francis Robicsek

*The Cultural Property Register (IDAEH) identified the lud as being from the Highlands of Guatemala, but given the Teotihuacan presence in the lowlands of Petén and other areas of Mesoamerica, it is classified here as of Mesoamerican origin.
