- Description
Unfortunately, the surface was heavily repainted before entering the La Ruta Maya collection. Several details were poorly executed, most notably one of the deer headdresses, which has a double mouth. The painting on the vase is a poor copy of a vase in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art (Painted Vase with Ruler and Scribe (1990.181). https://www.clevelandart.org/art/1990.181).
* Not suitable for exhibition.
*Although it is listed in the Cultural Property Register (IDAEH) as being from the Classic period of the Mayan Lowlands, in reality its decoration is of recent manufacture and its origin is undetermined.
Description
Polychrome vase (cream, black, red, orange) with straight walls and a flat bottom, decorated with a palace scene. Four richly attired figures surround a high-ranking figure seated on a throne or bench. He wears a pink cloak seemingly made of feathers or fur-covered animal skin.
The other figures wear deer-head headdresses and black body paint on their faces and shoulders. Evidence of glyphic text is present below the rim, along with secondary text.
