02 Object Information
- Description
Ceramic urn with lid, closely resembling examples from southern Campeche, decorated with two sculpted faces of the solar deity K’inich Ahaw in high relief. Both the base and the lid feature a flat bottom and outward-sloping walls.
The upper face displays painted details in reddish tones, likely applied with mineral-based pigments, while the lower face, unpainted, shows a more elaborate design framed by geometric elements that may hold symbolic or ritual significance.
Due to its form and ornamentation, the piece appears to have served a ceremonial function, likely as a funerary urn or ritual container.
