- Description
Anthropomorphic effigy vessel with lid. The vessel (labeled “a”) has a globular body and a flat base; it is decorated with a relief figure of an elderly man, whose head—also in relief—protrudes from the mid-section of the vessel wall. He may represent an Old God or God N (Pahuahtun or Pawatun). His arms, rendered in relief, are flexed at his sides, as if embracing the vessel.
The face features wrinkles, a pointed chin, closed eyes, a prominent nose, and a slightly open, possibly toothless mouth; he wears round earspools.
The lid (labeled “b”) is round with flaring sides and lacks a handle. Guatemalan Highlands. Classic Period.
